George William Smith PHILLIPS

George arrived in New Zealand on the Ship "Rob Roy" 1866 with his parents George William PHILLIPS and Martha Anne nee FILMER. 

His brothers Thomas and Harry and sisters Ettie and Annie arrived too.  

When George age 19 met up with Jane Maria GRAY age 34 a widow from previous marriages and bearing previously 7 children to 4 husbands.  The family was added to with another 7 Phillips children.  From the late 1869 Jane and George, promoted European education to the Maori in the Hokianga and in the late 1890's they moved to the Hawera / Taranaki area.    In 1869, George's parents quite upset with their son Georges situation, left New Zealand with their other children and settled in California.
