Thomas BEVAN 1801 - 1881

Family sailed from Gravesend, England on 10th Oct 1840 and arrived in Port Nicholson, New Zealand 17th March 1841 with his remaining family. A son Henry, daughter Nugent and wife Mary having died on the voyage. His two eldest sons were listed separately and have been generally overlooked in the New Zealand family history records. An early liaison by Thomas led to a son Hakaraia Te Whena (Zacharia Bevan) who when an adult, became prominent in Otaki life.  Thomas BEVAN on the 15 July 1858 married Eliza UPFIELD in Otaki.

Mary BEVAN died on the Lady Nugent

Mary BEVAN nee BEAVAN 1803 - 1841

The wife of Thomas BEVAN died at sea 1841.  She gave birth to a daughter called Nugent whom died 9 days later. The ship the family sailed on to New Zealand was called the "Lady Nugent".

George BEVAN 1823 - 1866

George BEVAN  1 Feb 1823 - 14 June 1866

The eldest son of Thomas and Mary Bevan. was In business in Te Aro Wellington, Waikawa (Otaki) and Whanganui. On the 20 Jul 1852 George married Elizabeth WOOD 1825 - 26 Jul 1873. George died in 1866, just before he was about to open the Criterion Hotel in Whanganui.

The Second eldest son married at Waikawa on the 26th July 1848 by the Rev Mr Williams. Marriage to Huiputea daughter of E Paara chief of Waikawa.

The BEVANS arrived in Wellington NZ in 1841 and started a rope making business in Te Aro. After a few years moved North and established themselves in the Waikawa, Manakau and Otaki regions of New Zealand.
